Frank Said:

(Illinois) Can I legally continue to home school for my higher education credentials?

We Answered:

The short answer is no.

The point of higher education is to guide you through specific schools of thought in the discipline that you are studying. I mean that you will need to learn specific theories, rulings, laws, approaches etc. The recommended textbooks are the centrepiece of your study and you will need to use them. However, you are free to look more widely for supporting arguments for your assignments.

As for choosing your own assignments - it really is not going to happen. In best case, you may be able to select a business or charity to use as a case study or example but assignment topics are reasonably specific.

As for being able to take a special test or something to gain credit - this would be a topic to discuss with the Disability Unit of your enrolling University.

Kevin Said:

special education?

We Answered:

A student with a disability (such as autism), may be tested (assessed) to determine if they have a disability on the IDEIA list and what services or help that particular student may need. If it is determined by that student's IEP team in a formal IEP meeting that the services for a particular student are best delivered at home, then, at that point, that particular student has a right to receive appropriate educational instruction at home.

What is a good continuing education class to teach for the general public?

We Answered:

recognizing non obvious signs of child abuse/neglect.(failure in school, behavioral changes, asking kids to "play" with them, depression, etc. This is something every person needs to know.. Maybe something on recognizing signs of a depressed/suicidal person.. not all suicidal persons "ask" for help and not all people who threaten suicide are seeking attention..that's a myth.. Both of these have affected my life and are important issues.. GL
