Degree Study At Home

Betty Said:

Does anyone know of a good online "home study" accredited college to earn a bachelor's degree at your own pace

We Answered:

There's a univeristy in Alberta, Canada called Athabasca University. You'll find it by doing an Internet search.

Benjamin Said:

what are chances employment with a correspondence study degree, i mean study at home degree.?

We Answered:

Depends how reputable the provider is. In the UK an Open University degree is well regarded because everybody knows that it's a REAL degree and you must have been self motivated to put in the work to get it. If the employer has never heard of the provider they may think it's one of those fake degrees where you just pay and get sent the bit of paper. So picking the right university is vitally important.

Richard Said:

I am a single mum and want to do a home study degree?

We Answered:

Well done you for wanting to do this for yourself. It will be hard and you will need to be commited because it will be very hard to try and study and take care of the kids yourself. I did a degree with the Open University but I had someone to have my daughter for one night a week.
If you could get someone for one evening would be better as I found it helped to be able to discuss the course with other students and I was also able to touch base with a tutor. Alternatively could you do a course during the day - if you have young children there are creches available and most course work alongside school hours and holidays.

Good luck to you

Are online/ *earn your degree at home* classes worth the money?

We Answered:

In a word, NO. Your college education should be well-rounded. Even a 10-month course will give you some exposure to other subjects, people, interpersonal communication, etc. You also get other invaluable things with going to college - making friends, making industry contacts, better career placement, etc.

As far as employers, your education is only part of the equation. You need some job experience and you need to get into interviews and ace them. You need a well-written resume and a professional presentation / demeanor.

Good luck.

What can I study at home if I can't go to school right now, but eventually want to get a biology degree?

We Answered:

I would definitely recommend picking up an Anatomy and Physiology textbook and reading through that. From what I hear, that's the class that quickly deters the faint of heart in biology. If you have a head start, that class will be cake. Another one that seems to trip students up is Organic Chemistry. And if it's been a while since you had a basic biology class, it might be worthwhile to pick up a Biology 101 textbook as well.

You can buy textbooks whenever, it doesn't have to be through a university. Or if it's cheaper, you can rent them from Chegg.com which has been a godsend for me.

Best of luck to you!
