A manager in an adult literacy program where I used to work did her masters through Walden. She was very positive about the experience. As someone else remarked, no tests, but lots of papers and projects, which both help you learn and test what you know and can articulate better than an exam, anyway. And even face-to-face grad courses rely much less on tests than do undergrad courses.

The only negative aspect (as far as I'm concerned -- she didn't find this negative at all) was that she was required to physically go to Walden for two weeks each summer. That was all the vacation time she got, and she had to spend it there, at the time they set up. I would have been annoyed, but she really liked meeting everyone face to face and enjoyed the contact.

My best advice is to never settle. If you want to be a dentist, be a dentist, don't just settle for nursing because you think it's easier. You might end up regretting it later. Good luck with your decision. :)

Well, I can't tell you about Australia, but I know that the PhD program online through University of Phoenix is one of the best. It can be accessed from anywhere. I got my MSN doing the online program and now I am teaching in the University online program. UoP is fully accredited and the programs are very good. Challenging and hard work, but worth the time and effort. Do a web search for online PhD programs. There are several.

There's a lot of commonality among the specialties. As a general rule, you'll have more options if you take go into nursing practice rather than administration or education. That's because it's easier to teach an accomplished practitioner to do administrative or educational tasks than the other way around.

At worst, you night have to take a couple classes to pick up the missing credits to jump from one specialty to the other.
