Health Education Degree Online

Marcus Said:

Can I get my Master's in Occupational Therapy online if I finished a BS in Health Science from online.?

We Answered:

If the school is not properly accredited you have a major problem./

Harvey Said:

Do any Ivy League or top rated colleges offer online degree programs?

We Answered:

While several such programs (see Columbia, e.g.) offer individual courses online, I don't think that any currently offer degrees that way. Furthermore, if you could find a program that would do this, the entrance requirements would have to be the same as those of the traditional university to avoid diluting the school's reputation, so unless you have a near-perfect high school GPA and SAT score, you wouldn't be able to get in.

I can sympathize, however, with your concerns with the U. of P. There may very well be a middle ground out there - a recognized, but not elite, school, that does offer such a program online. You might want to look at some of the state universities in more remote locations, which have used online programs as a way of maintaining enrollments despite less than perfect physical locations.

Charlie Said:

does anyone know of any online/distance degrees or diplomas on occupational health and safety?

We Answered:

I would stick with traditional colleges that also offer online courses and steer clear of those online, for profit schools such as university of phoenix, strayer, ITT tech, capella as former students of u of phoenix started: http://www.uopsucks.com

You may already know, but occupational therapy and occupational health are two separate fields albeit the ot wants his or her patients to be 'safe and healthy' :) And just fyi, ot is very competitive to gain entry into with the prospective student needing a 4.0 gpa in prereq courses as well as overall gpa. For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search occupational therapists, occupational health and safety specialists or registered nurse (RN's may eventually get job in occupational health).

Ashley Said:

What are some real "brick and mortar" Universities which offer online education and degrees, too?

We Answered:

Many, if not most, traditional universities have some online classes available; you might have to search for ones that offer most or all of what you need online.

With just a quick look through, I noticed Boston University, Cornell, and George Washington University, all very good schools.

Charlotte Said:

Is an online PhD in Health Education or Public Health program perceived the same as a on campus program?

We Answered:

1. If I were to teach in the area of health education, medical education, or public health, so I have the same changes with a well structured online degree as I would with a traditional program?

The DHEd and the PhD are not the same. Careful there. There still exists some bias in favor of traditional programs in the US but this is changing rapidly as a new generations of academics take charge. The important consideration is the college awarding the degree and not whether it was online or classroom. The key to an academic appointment is going to be your research and publication history. Your diploma doesn't say "online" on it - it's just a degree from AT Still like all the others.

2. Do this vary by regional area?

Not really. The perceptions are generally the same nationwide.

3. Has anyone heard anything about this university (they are well known for their medical school) or gotten a degree from this program?

AT Still has a solid reputation. It's not Johns-Hopkins (they teach graduate PH online now) but it's not one of the "as seen on TV" colleges either. I've heard that their program is more practical (practitioner degree) than it is academic.
