Restoration Begins
Work began on the restoration in 1993 with phase I, known as the demolition phase because the east and west wings of the school were removed, the site was cleaned up, and asbestos was removed. The decision to restore the building to its beginnings for historic significance necessitated removal of structures added to the building in the 1950's. All of the fire damaged parts were removed and as much of the original construction was saved as possible. Bricks, door frames, window frames, flooring, ceilings, etc. all had to be replicated based on the original construction. |
