Fractions Mixed Numbers

Timothy Said:

How do you multiply fractions and mixed numbers?

We Answered:

First, convert the mixed number to an improper fraction. Next, multiply the numerators and the denominators. Then, simply the result into a mixed number.

Example: 3 2/3 * 4 7/8
1) Convert to 11/3 * 39/8
2) Multiply the numerators and the denominators 429/24
3) Simplify to a mixed number: 17 21/24, simplified to 17 7/8

Marian Said:

How do you divide fractions/ mixed numbers/ whole numbers?

We Answered:

If the answer is a mixed number or whole number change it to a fraction. For example: 3 2/4 would be changed to 14/4 or 2 would be 2/1. After you would make the number its reciprical and multiply. For example: 14/4 divided by 2/1... you would change 2/1 to its recipricle of 1/2 then multiply through. So it would be.. 14/4 multiplied by 1/2... then you'd get 14/8 then you'd simplify it to 7/4. So with that the answer to 3 2/4 divided by 2 is 7/4. Your welcome.

Adrian Said:

How would you wirte these decimals into fractions or mixed numbers?

We Answered:

The number to the left of the decimal is the whole number. And the fractions will be however many numbers after the decimal according to place value.

For example, 4.25 will be 4-25/100= 4-1/4. It's 25/100 because 0.25 is in the hundredth place.
Another example is 0.006 will be 6/1000= 3/500. Remember to put your answers in lowest terms.

Hope this helps....

How can you change improper fractions to mixed numbers?

We Answered:

5/2 means 5 divide by 2. When you do the division, you will get a quotient of 2 and remainder of 1. The quotient is the big number written before the fraction, the numerator is the remainder while the denominator is actually the denominator of the improper fraction. So, in this case, the answer is 2 and 1/2

Hope this helps :D

Bertha Said:

can someone change this 2 improper fractions to mixed numbers?

We Answered:

1) You might think of it this way:
88 = 35 + 35 + 18

Similarly:
88/35 = 35/35 + 35/35 + 18/35
= 1 + 1 + 18/35

Answer = 2 18/35

––––––––––––––––––

2) 91/36 = 36/36 + 36/36 + 19/36

Answer = 2 19/36

––––––––––––––––––
