Help on fractions..math help!!?

We Answered:

-7 = 7/y

Homework help?! Fractions!?

We Answered:

In each case, the problem has identified the two parts to be compared, such as Kristi's titles and Katrina's titles. The ratio is simply the two integers with a slash between them. For instance,

3 / 6

is the answer to that problem. Where are you having trouble with the basic concept? Are you confused by the few times you need to add two things together, or is this a reading comprehension problem? Since you haven't described that, I'm hopeful that the one example gets you going; otherwise, I'm getting into the realm of cheating.

Partial Fractions Decomposition help?

We Answered:

[6x^2+1] / [x^2(x-1)^3] =
= A/x^2 + B/x + C/(x-1) + D/(x-1)^2 + E/(x-1)^3

multiply both sides by x^2(x-1)^3:

= A(x-1)^3 + Bx(x-1)^3 + Cx^2(x-1)^2 + Dx^2(x-1) + Ex^2
= Ax^3 - 3Ax^2 + 3Ax - A + Bx^4 - 3Bx^3 + 3Bx^2 - Bx
+ Cx^4 - 2Cx^3 +Cx^2 + Dx^3 - Dx^2 + Ex^2

setting the coefficients equal on both sides of the equation:

for x^4 coef.: 0=B+C
for x^3 coef.: 0=A-3B-2C+D
for x^2 coef.: 6=-3A+3B+C-D+E
for x coef.: 0=3A-B
for constants: 1=-A

solving these equations simultaneously:
A= -1
0=3A-B=3(-1)-B; so B= -3
0=B+C= -3+C; so C=3
0=A-3B-2C+D= -1 - 3(-3) - 2(3) +D; so D= -2
6= -3A+3B+C-D+E= -3(-1) + 3(-3) + 3 -(-2) +E; so E=7

So
[6x^2+1] / [x^2(x-1)^3] =
= -1/x^2 - 3/x + 3/(x-1) - 2/(x-1)^2 + 7/(x-1)^3

Math help, Fractions?

We Answered:

remember multiplication of fractions is simply multiplying the numerators and multiplying the denominators and then reducing your answer to lowest terms.

however, you can (you don NOT have to) make things easier before you multiply by reducing first. Remember you can cancel any common terms in a numerator and denominator

so starting with 4/10 * 5/8 * -6/8

starting with easiest 4/10 reduces to 2/5; and -6/8 reduces to -3/4
now you have 2/5 * 5/8 * -3/4 the 5 in the first term and the 5 in the second term cancel out and the 2 in the first term and the 8 in the second term reduces to a 1 in the first term and a 4 in the second term

now you have 1/1 * 1/4 * -3/4 no more to cancel so multiply to get -3/16
this is the answer!

Maths help!! Fractions! :(?

We Answered:

Each term is moved down with the same multiplier along with new terms with an addition of one on the denominator, along with an addition of one on the multiplier.
