Bessie Said:

How do u do distance rate time problems in algebra? Explain the rules.?

We Answered:

You need to know that it takes three parts to the equation. Figure out what is missing and that is what you have to solve for. Then rearrange the formula to fit this situation.
If you need to know how much time it took then :
d = r(t) becomes t = d/r, for example
Fill in the know values and solve for the unknown

Algebra: Direct Variations.. sample problem?

We Answered:

direct variation: y = kx (y varies directly as x; k is a constant)
so k = y/x (remember that k is a constant.
You have a y and x that go together, and another y, looking for its x.
You can set up a proportion because any y over its corresponding x will be the same (k).
40/750 = 50/x

Gwendolyn Said:

Can you give me a sample calculus problems with the step-by-step solution?

We Answered:

I think a fairly decent problem would be any kind of optimization problem such as seen here: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/C…

It just involves setting up an equation, finding a derivative, and finding critical points, and it has a very definite application which should work well for your report.
