Hyperbola's and Algebra mixed wih Geometry?

We Answered:

Parabolas, hyperbolas, and ellipses are all solutions sets of equations of the form f(x,y) = 0, where f is a polynomial of degree too.

Consider the equation of general form Ax^2 + By^2 + Cx + Dy = 0.

When A and B are positive you get an ellipse (and when they're equal you get a circle, which is a special case of an ellipse).

When A is positive and B negative, you get a hyperbola.

When B is zero, you get the inbetween case of a parabola.

Lance Said:

I was sick from school and missed some algebra lessons and now I'm trying to do my homework with just a couple

We Answered:

One example of each:

18)
3x² = 16x + 12
3x² - 16x - 12 = 0
(3x - 4) (x - 4) = 0

3x - 4 = 0
3x = 4
x = 3/4

x - 4 = 0
x = 4

ANSWER: x = 3/4, x = 4

Resource to solve by factoring: http://www.algebrahelp.com/lessons/equat…

21)
2x² + 3x = 5
2x² + 3x - 5 = 0

2 = a
3 = b
5 = c

The rest is difficult to post here...

14)
3x² - 48
3 (x² - 16)

Would anyone happen to know if Algebra and Trigonometry: Structure and Method Book 2 covers Algebra 2 lessons?

We Answered:

Well, it is the second book of the series, because I found book 1 here: http://www.amazon.com/Algebra-Structure-…

I believe the content is Algebra 1, because the same author wrote this book, titled "Algebra 2": http://www.ecampus.com/bk_detail.asp?isb…

So no, it does not cover Algebra 2 topics.

Please help!! I was sick and missed school and missed some major algebra lessons and the teacher only game me?

We Answered:

1. first find the differences in people getting off and people getting on for each station.

Brownsville:35-27=8
Liberty: 24-11=13
Long Lake: 55-42=13
Bent lake: 10-105= -95 (more people got off than on)

so over the course of the trip, the difference of people getting on to getting off was

8+13+13-95= -61...in other words, there were 61 more people on the train when it left sutton than when it left bent creek so...

203 + 61 = 264

2. there is not enough info for that question...we'd have to know by how much it has increased

3. so for this one let's create an equation. let's let x equal the cost of the chain to the jeweler. so we know

150 = x + 1/2 x
150 = 3/2 x

so we multiply both sides by 2/3 to get

2/3 (150) = x
100 = x

so the chain cost the jeweler 100 dollars
